Three ways your money comes back

Up to 6.5% a year on the USDC you place in a vault, up to 0.75% less on every conversion, and up to $45 for every friend who joins. You choose the vault, and nothing is locked up.

Your USD, earning once you pick a vault

  1. Hold

Move USDC from your balance into one of six vaults curated by Gauntlet. You pick the vault, and there is no term to commit to.

  2. Spend

A higher tier charges less to top up, less to spend abroad and less on FX — the saving arrives as a smaller fee.

  3. Share

Send your referral link. Each friend climbs a four-rung ladder worth up to $45 to you.

Three ways to earn

They run at once and they do not interact — a balance earning interest still converts at your tier's markup when you spend it, and neither affects what a friend pays you.

On the USDC you place in a vault

Your USDC earns for as long as it is in the vault you chose. There is no fixed term and no notice period, and it stops earning on anything you withdraw or spend. Withdrawals draw on the liquidity of that vault.

On the dollars you spend abroad

A tier does not pay you back — it charges you less. The FX markup falls from 1.5% on Free to 0.75% on Metal, so a tier is worth 0.75% of everything you convert once you are at the top of the ladder.

Make your dollars work for you, instead of you working for the dollars

Your balance stakes at your tier's rate up to the tier cap, and at the free rate above it. Set a starting balance and how long it sits there. The membership fee comes off every month, and the free tier is drawn alongside so you can see whether the tier pays for itself.

Illustrative, not a projection. Rates are variable and can change; yield and the membership fee are both worked out a day at a time, so a short horizon is charged its share of the fee rather than none of it; and nothing here accounts for what you spend or withdraw. Earning questions.

Is there a cap on how much I can earn?

There is no cap on the balance that earns interest and no cap on what a tier saves you. Referral rewards are capped at 4,500 SmashX — $45 — per friend, with no limit on how many friends you bring.

Can I withdraw whenever I want?

There is no lock-up and no notice period, but a withdrawal draws on the liquidity of the vault you chose, so it is not guaranteed to be instant. Money you move out stops earning from the moment it leaves, and the rest carries on.

Is this a savings account?

No. SmashPay is not a bank, your balance is not a deposit, and it is not FDIC-insured or covered by any deposit guarantee scheme. Your USDC is held in your own self-custodial wallet.

Is the rate guaranteed?

No. APY is variable and can move with the underlying market. The rate attached to your tier is the one that applies on the day interest accrues, and we tell you before a rate on your tier falls.

Do the three stack?

They do, and they do not interfere with each other. A balance earning interest still converts at your tier's rate when you spend it, and neither changes what a friend's spending pays you.

Does a higher tier always pay for itself?

Not always — that is what the estimator above is for. A tier that pays a better rate also charges an annual fee, and at a small balance and modest card spending the free tier can come out ahead. The net figure takes the fee off so you can see which one wins for you.

What you should know

This is not a bank account, a deposit, or a traditional savings product. SmashPay Inc. is a financial technology company and a FinCEN-registered Money Services Business, not a bank. Balances are not insured by the FDIC or any equivalent deposit guarantee scheme.

Returns are variable and are not guaranteed. A rate shown on this page is the rate available now, not a promise about the future, and it can fall. Yield is generated by lending your USDC through third-party vaults curated by Gauntlet, not from SmashPay's own reserves. Your balance is exposed to those vaults, and a withdrawal depends on the liquidity available in the vault it sits in.

Availability depends on where you live, and not every earning feature is offered in every market. Rewards are shown before tax and may be taxable where you live. Cash back is paid on eligible spend; refunded, reversed and cash-equivalent transactions do not qualify and may be deducted.
